Building Safety Month
May 2013 - Founded by the International Code Council (ICC), Building Safety Month is celebrated by jurisdictions worldwide during the month of May to help bring awareness and understanding to individuals, families and businesses of what it takes to create and sustain safe and sustainable structures. The professionals that were recognized at the Durant City Council Meeting of May 14, 2013:  Architect Shane Knight, Architect Steve Pierce, Engineer Brandon Wall, Engineer Wayne Barker, Architect/Designer Eddie Haulsy.

Mayors Day of Recognition for National Service
May 9, 2013 - On the date of National Service, Durant's mayor is joining with mayors across the country to support and recognize with appreciation those who have volunteered countless hours to our community.

Durant Walk and Roll to School Day 
May 8, 2013 - designated as Durant Walk and Roll to School Day in conjunction with the official National Bike to School Day, promoting students community-wide to get out and bike or walk to school.

April 2013 - The Durant High School "Pride of Durant" marching band has a long-standing tradition of excellence in marching and perfromance competition

April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month
April 2013 - Sexual violence impacts every person in our community either as a victim or survivor; as a loved one or as a community member. Together we can be a part of the solution to eliminate crimes of sexual violence.

The City of Durant Recognizes April 2016 As Fair Housing Month
April 2016 - Celebrated every April to reaffirm commitment to fair and equitable treatment. Enacted into law on April 11, 1968, the Fair Housing Act makes it illegal to discriminate in the sale or rental of housing based on race, color, sex, religion, national origin, familial status or disability.

Red vs Blue Recycling
Come join this friendly competition from March 15 through May 10, 2013. Residents have the opportunity to demonstrate their pride by picking a favorite team between the Fire Dept (Red) and the Police Dept (blue) while increasing recycling efforts. Place your recyclables into your favorite team's marked dumpster (plastic 1, 2, and now 5; non-plasticized paper/cardboard, styrofoam containers, steel/aluminum cans, ink cartridges, cell phones, e-waste, tires, etc.). Event dumpsters are located at (1) 2514 W Main [Goody's former parking lot] and (2) 1415 W Main [Unity Home Health parking lot]. Recycled items will be forwarded to the Choctaw Nation Recycling Center. Second page of this proclamation lists CN accepted recyclable items (accepted but omitted in error on this flyer is plastic #5).
